The challenge

  • German telecoms giant Deutsche Telekom AG has an extensive and versatile range of products, and also innovates in a wide range of fields.
  • Telephony is just one part of Deutsche Telekom. Its portfolio also includes e-marketplaces for specific industries, advertising payment services, media, online shops, data and cloud services.

The solution

Following an analysis of the various business cases, we evaluated each case in terms of strategic direction, financial aspects and risk, and proposed suitable courses of action. Opportunities for optimization have been highlighted. The consultants also developed a controlling concept for the entire portfolio, including a new governance structure and ranking system to optimize investment decisions.

Thanks to the expert advice provided by us, Deutsche Telekom now has transparent innovation portfolios, with a set of performance & opportunity metrics by which it can judge how to allocate investment. And with the controlling concept introduced by us, the corporation has great scope and flexibility to try out fresh ideas.

Applying their remarkable expertise in methods, their team developed a control model for the growth think-tank at the Deutsche Telekom AG innovations unit, perfectly integrating the tools and methods we deploy for managing and directing innovations

M&A Industry Snapshot: The European PropTech and ConTech M&A market
The European PropTech and ConTech M&A market is regaining momentum, but under fundamentally changed dynamics. Capital has become more selective, strategic buyers are increasingly dominating transaction processes, and single-point solutions are losing relevance despite strong growth. This snapshot highlights a clear shift toward scalable SaaS platforms with recurring revenues, deep workflow integration, and strong data foundations. Buy-and-build strategies remain the primary growth lever for investors, while AI-enabled platforms combining operational data and automation capabilities are commanding increasing strategic premiums. As recent transactions such as the Consigli deal demonstrate, valuation is no longer driven by revenue alone, but by a company’s role within future platform ecosystems. As a result, well-positioned platforms benefit from an attractive exit environment, while demand for mid-market add-on acquisitions remains strong.
